According to reports, Jess started losing weight during the Covid-19 shutdown because she was forced to remain at her family’s house.

Jess Phillips is a member of the British Parliament who represents the district of Birmingham Yardley for the Labour Party. Early in life, she set her sights on the position of Prime Minister, a goal consistent with her upbringing in a left-wing ideology.

Jess joined the Labour Party when she was fourteen and began actively campaigning with her parents when she was sixteen. She even remembers walking with them at various rallies.

She was never a blind follower and, at age 24, in opposition to the war in Iraq, Jess resigned from the party she had joined. After five years, she returned to the party. She began helping victims of sexual assault, abuse of children, and human trafficking at the Women’s Aid Federation of England.

Jess became a member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley on the Labor Party ticket when she was 34 years old.

What Motivated Jess Phillips to Lose Weight?

Jess said that her weight loss journey began when she was forced to stay at home because of the Covid-19 lockdown. 

Jess shared with The Telegraph UK,

“My weight, breasts, teeth, and hair have all fallen foul. I have been told I have too much cleavage, which is “distracting”. I have been told that I shouldn’t dress in “sack-like clothing.”

“I receive emails with nuggets of advice such as: “Your chest was very flushed on the news today, you should consider putting some powder on next time.” When I appear on TV to talk about, say, the increasing domestic abuse in lockdown, the feedback I get is about my “greasy fringe”.”

“I am pretty certain that I made a good decision to dedicate my career to improving equalities and the role of women in public life.”

During the lockdown, Jess had time to prioritize her health. However, she has always been motivated to empower other women, and she started it with herself.

“I am healthier and frankly happier, and I look different. I really don’t want to be painted as a smug lockdown guru when many people have put on the so-called “lockdown half stone” – I’m anything but – but I have changed. When you are in the public eye, even if your fame has naff all to do with what you look like, your appearance becomes fair game.” 

“Desperate for time out of the house, I started running. My husband, Tom, came with me at first, before doing his back in and stopping. To my surprise, I kept going. I found that I was able to make a space in my diary every evening to run. I still feel like I might die/vomit but I cannot bear to miss it. I simply do not recognize this as something I would think. Yet here I am. “

Jess’s present physical appearance makes it easy to debunk any rumors that she has regained any of the weight she lost. However, the rumors were accurate and verified by Jess.

Has she maintained her weight loss?

The politician says that she followed a low-carb diet throughout the week, avoiding foods like cakes and that she ate and drank bread only on the weekends. Jess shared,

I have weight-watched; I have aimed for a lighter life, which my husband referred to as “the eating dust phase”. I was practically married to Dr. Atkins in the early 2000s. Since I was about 14, I haven’t been healthy or particularly fussed about my health – but I have cared what I looked like.
